Jewish Care is developing a new strategy for its community centre and outreach services, which will be implemented throughout 2019/20 and onwards. The Senior Dementia Support Worker is a newly formed role and will evolve as the new strategy is developed and rolled out. As such, this job description provides an outline of the overall responsibilities and is neither prescriptive nor an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities

The Postholder will ensure the efficient and effective provision of services, programming and events, for people living with Dementia within the Leonard Sainer Centre.

What you'll be doing:

  • Working n collaboration with the Deputy Manager and Centre Manager, day-to-day operational coordination of culturally specific Centre for People Living with Dementia, Outreach services, their relatives and associated programming
  • Ensuring that new services and programming are implemented and managed in line with agreed standards and KPIs; 
  • Leading programmes and Outreach activities; to research, develop, plan, implement and run, fun and interactive activities to maximise service user engagement
  • Coordinating the scheduling of, facilitate and lead activities and programming across the dementia services.
  • Leading activities at the Leonard Sainer Centre and in partner agency buildings, and to assist in the provision of an environment which is motivating and stimulating for all service users, and which reflects their Jewish identity and cultural needs.
  • Encouraging and supporting the involvement of volunteers within the day to day programme of activities and care
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external colleagues to lead safeguarding concern enquiries, follow up appropriately and to enhance the quality of life of older people
  • Where required, coordinate and carry out actions as indicated in a person’s care plan which includes all aspects of personal care and associated documents in collaboration with relatives and agencies
  • Responsible for the wellbeing, management, development and performance of all dementia services staff and volunteers under their line management
  • Promoting an integrated, collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to service delivery, by working closely with internal colleagues from other departments within Jewish Care and external partners across the Jewish community, charities and health and social care organisations, including local authorities. 
  • Have a flexible approach to the service, adjusting hours and priorities at short notice depending on the needs of the service.

What you'll need:

Qualifications 

  • NVQ level or equivalent experience
  • Further or higher education qualifications in social care, social work, community work or dementia. (Desirable)

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with people living with dementia and older people;
  • Experience working in a team of staff and volunteers
  • Experience working in a complex multi stakeholder environment.
  • Experience of or interest in working in a co-production culture

Skills & Knowledge 

  • Knowledge of the Jewish community, across all levels of observance, local parlance and sensitivities; 
  • Working knowledge of The Care Act, The Mental Capacity Act, DOLS and general adult safeguarding best practice; 
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting people living with dementia
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to deliver a consistently high quality customer experience; 
  • High levels of creativity and resourcefulness, with the ability to work within tight deadlines and budgets; 

This post is for 34 hours per week
