Anita Dorfman House is our new 64-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home replacing The Princess Alexandra Home in Spring of 2019. Purpose-built to the highest standards, the care home provides brand new facilities and quality care in a modern environment. On the top of floor of the care home is Wolfson Assisted Living, 16 studio apartments for people who have low assistance needs but want to live in a care home environment. Anita Dorfman House and Wolfson Assisted Living are part of Sandringham, our new care and community hub that sits within 16-acres of beautiful green space, with a new community centre and Independent Living apartments opening in 2020.

The working hours are 40.25 hours per week, 8am to 8pm, worked on a day rota basis including weekends.

The purpose of the Senior Care Assistant within a care home setting is to assist and support residents in a wide range of daily activities so that they can achieve optimum well-being, independence, self-expression, fulfilment and have as positive an experience as possible. In addition, all those working in a care home setting, strive to provide all stakeholders, including residents, their relatives or representatives, volunteers, external visitors, professionals and colleagues, with a positive ‘customer experience, thus enhancing their experience as well as their view of Jewish Care as a caring professional services provider.  As a Senior Care Assistant you will act as the team leader to the shift, ensuring the quality of care delivered to residents is to an exceptional standard.

The working hours are 40.25 hours per week, 8am to 8pm, worked on a day rota basis including weekends.

As a Senior Care Assistant your responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the ‘team leader’ for the shift and undertake responsibilities which will aid the running of the shift

  • Organising staff allocations and breaks

  • Arranging cover for absences

  • Liaising with home managers

  • Dealing with visits, inquiries from external agencies or visiting professionals (GP etc)

  • Ensure completion of special tasks such as medication administration and recording etc

In addition to Senior duties you will be expected to:

  • Be included as part of the care team on shift
  • To support residents in all activities of all daily living which are specified in their care plan and or are required in order to maximise wellbeing (physical, emotional, social etc.). These include personal care, food and drink, administering medication, accessing health care and recreational activities
  • To engage with residents and other stakeholders in a way that reflects their preferences, abilities as well as taking into account any impairment. This will be done in a way that will nurture their sense of self
  • To communicate clearly, precisely and appropriately with residents, relatives, colleagues and others in order to ensure that the care and assistance as well as any health needs of the residents are recorded and shared to enable seamless provision of care. This may be in writing or verbally and includes a wide range of formats including care plans
  • To work as part of a team and support others to maximise the delivery of care and support
  • To gain understanding of care elements for the safe delivery of care including attendance at training and meetings, familiarising yourself with policies and procedures and routines within the home
  • To contribute to keeping the environment, furniture and equipment in good repair and appealing appearance and to report any damage or fault so that these can be put right
  • To represent the home and Jewish Care in a professional manner at all times

Requirements for the Senior Care Assistant:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent (minimum).
  • Experience of Supervising others
  • Experience of working in a similar care environment (essential)
  • Demonstrate a support role working with older people with dementia.
  • Willing to undertake all aspects of care or non-care duties to meet both the physical, emotional and social needs of our residents.
  • Able to work shifts (including weekends and evenings)
