This position is a secondment based at our Selig Court Independent Living resource in Golders Green, NW11. The secondment is for 6 months, ending 31 March 2019. The salary will be pro rata'd for 6 months. The working hours are 36.25 each week, worked on a rota basis to include working every other weekend and occasional evenings where required. Working in a friendly, interesting and compassionate team in a great building within a multi service complex. The role of Independent Living Team Leader is to ensure the we provide our tenants/Service Users with safe, compassionate and person-centred support and care. Building relationships with tenants and their families and encouraging inclusion in community activities and other social and recreational opportunities within the scheme and in the wider local environment. Team Leaders provide support to tenants by enabling, encouraging and promoting independence and providing choice.


The role of Team Leader is to support Care Assistants to deliver high quality services, demonstrating Best Practice, undertaking supervision and observation of care assistants in tenants’ own flats. Team Leaders are responsible for completing risk assessments, reviews and ensure staff work safely and keep Service Users safe from harm and abuse.

You will be working with two other team leaders, and will deputise for the Deputy Manager in their absence. Working in new purpose built apartments, providing a great living experience for tenants and strong leadership for staff you manage. We are looking for a new member of the management team who has positive energy, enjoys working with people and understands the importance of team working. Team leaders need to be able to make decisions independently, and develop trusting and respectful; relationships with all members of the team and tenants and their families.

Team Leaders take responsibility in their roles and you will need to be flexible in your way of working as you will work one weekend in two for either a morning or afternoon shift. You will need to have high personal standards of timekeeping and attending as a role model for staff you supervise. The scheme houses Older People including a number of Holocaust Survivors, so you will be someone who is interested in other people. All training in terms of understanding the Jewish way of life is provided during our extensive induction training.

Principal accountabilities / responsibilities

  • Encourage service users to maintain their independence by understanding their needs and limitations, enabling the service to create opportunities to express these fully
  • Participate in the assessment, reviews and care planning processes for service users to ensure their needs are fully understood, agreed, documented and delivered to the agreed standard
  • Facilitate and lead activities where required, working with colleagues to assist in the provision of an environment which is motivating and stimulating for all service users and which reflects their Jewish identity and cultural needs
  • Lead an effective, motivated and safe team & provide excellent person centred care focused on relationships to all service users ensuring Jewish Care continues to promote meaningful lives
  • Ensure tenants are aware of all social, recreational and community opportunities provided across the campus and facilitating any necessary access
  • Monitor standards of care and supervise Care/Support Assistants through reflective practice
  • Complete risk assessments in the service user’s apartment with the tenant to ensure we are working safely with people
  • Promote safety in the scheme and ensure care/ support workers understand health and safety procedures and document incidents fully
  • Communicate well with others and encourage the same in return
  • Work with support volunteers and help to maintain their integration within the service
  • Take responsibility for management in the unit in the absence of the Deputy and registered managers
  • Share responsibility for scheduling working times of Care Assistants, ensure the handover process is effective, supervise and audit medication management, provide leadership and management for end of life care
  • Problem solve with the management team in relation to effectiveness of staffing, training needs of staff, potential HR issues and issues of health and safety

Qualifications


  • Level 2/3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or related discipline)
  • QCF level 2/3 (and willingness to continuous learning)

Experience


  • Leading or managing others in a care or similar environment for more than 6 months
  • Experience of security and building management (Desirable)
  • Experience of administration of medicine
  • Experience of dealing with emergencies
  • Experience of Safeguarding Adults
  • Experience of Team working
