With the wider HR team made up of 25 employees, you will lead a team of 8 and be responsible for designing and implementing all Jewish Care human resource activities, ensuring they drive the Jewish Care Vision and 7 strategic goals including being an Employer of Choice. 

Not only will you play a key role in ensuring that our Vision and Values are brought to life across the organisation, you will lead a team who provide high standards of HR service and advice to stakeholders to help them achieve their goals, enabling organisation development, good change management and efficiencies.

Part of this role will be to review our policies to ensure that they’re robust and up to date, and that our employment practice is fit for purpose to maximise the potential of our staff.  Developing strong performance management and overseeing employment relation issues will be a significant part of the role. You will provide specialist, professional advice on employment law issues, supporting the HR Business Partners and mitigating legislative risk. 

Driving continual improvement and great communication skills will need to come naturally so that you can roll out various HR initiatives influencing the Senior Leadership Team and a variety of stakeholders at all levels. 

It will also be important for you to influence organisation structure and workforce planning as well as keeping our pay and benefits under review to ensure we remain competitive. 

What you'll be doing:

  1. Maintaining focus on the strategic development of Jewish Care to be an Employer of Choice. 
  2. Contributing to the leadership and direction of Jewish Care through active strategic input and involvement in the Senior Leadership Team.
  3. Provide support for reward activities – e.g. pay review, benefits, pensions
  4. Implement a robust HR function capable of supporting Jewish Care as an Employer of Choice:  
  • Design and implement all human resource activities throughout the employee life cycle; to include policies, processes, systems, budgets, development of our people, objectives and plans designed to achieve people related KPIs to deliver the strategic vision. 
  • Lead the Human Resource Business Partners, HR Advisors, Payroll and administration team to deliver added value and high standards of customer service to stakeholders.
  • Oversee employment relation issues, driving effective performance management, and mitigating risk.
  • Ensure that all human resource activities comply with appropriate legislative requirements and best practice.
  • Alongside the Head of Talent support staff wellbeing, including management of external providers.   Jointly provide good awareness and tools to effectively manage sick absence and offer support where required e.g. mental health

5. Work closely with the Head of Talent who leads on Learning and Development and the interim Head of Resourcing who leads Recruitment and is currently overseeing HR     systems as well as other peers.

6. Provide constructive challenge and innovative ideas by remaining up to date and engaged with HR research, developments and networks.

7. Assist in the coaching, mentoring and development of our senior management team.

8. Deputise in the absence of the Director 

What you'll need:

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (MCIPD
  • Over 5 years generalist HR experience in a senior HR management role
  • Experience of being part of a senior leadership team and making meaningful contributions to strategic decision making
  • Extensive knowledge of employment law
  • Good understanding of staff engagement techniques and effective performance management 
  • Organisational design, structures and change management concepts
  • Ability to align teams and their performance to the vision and core values of an organisation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, mediation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop, monitor and deliver KPIs.
  • Consistently delivering results within agreed timeframes and in line with financial targets.
