We are looking to appoint an exceptional individual to the role of Head of Care Services. Leading the Care Services team, you will successfully implement the care homes strategy and establish the organisation’s homes as the first choice of care provider for the Jewish community due to their excellent quality, innovation and Jewish atmosphere. Reporting to the Director of Care Services, you must have an excellent track record of senior management in the social care sector, a can do attitude and leadership flair.

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing clear leadership and management to the Care Services Team that will deliver the vision and goals for the service. Provide line management, support and guidance to individual members of the team and foster strong team work and team support.
  • Working closely with the Director of Care Services ensuring that they are informed of all key aspects of the service and in particular any areas of existing or emerging risk. 
  • Working closely and contribute as part of the senior team developing and then implementing the care homes’ strategy.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Care Services and Director of Community Services, develop and implement a strategy for maintaining high quality, compliant services that are meeting or exceeding regulatory requirements and organisational standards.
  • Leading, developing and implementing strategies and practices that will improve customer experience, occupancy and budget management.
  • Supporting recruitment, management and development of the care homes staff team, ensuring the required number and skill mix requirements are met and ensuring that Jewish care’s learning and development programme, led by HR, meets the care homes requirements.
  • Developing a succession plan for the care homes at all levels, identifying and developing ‘rising stars’ and managing lacking performance where required.
  • Working closely and at times lead expert groups and Committees, ensuring reports are submitted in time and at the appropriate level to inform the committees and Directorate. 
  • Ensuring the timely implementation of actions emerging from committees, inspections and audits.
  • Promoting the work of Jewish Care and raising the profile of the organisation through membership and collaboration with relevant organisation in the Jewish and wider community and within the Health and Social Care sector.
  • Taking Lead roles for capital and other projects that enhance the practice and / or environment of Jewish Care services.
  • As a member of the Senior leadership, attend events and meetings that may take place outside normal ‘business hours’.
  • Maintaining a visible presence to reflect the 24/7 nature of the service. This may be attending meetings, conducting audits or visiting staff during day or night shift and some weekends.
  • Working closely with other departments to enable prompt response to complaints, disciplinary or grievance procedures and facilitate assistance with investigations or meetings as needed.
  • Demonstrating the values of Jewish Care and good practice, building and maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders and maintaining a professional manner at all times.

What you'll need:

Qualifications

  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in health and /or social care related subjects.
  • Evidence of strong continuing professional development
  • Advanced Business or management qualification is desirable

Experience

  • Significant senior management experience of a wide range of social care services
  • Demonstrable ability to lead a successful senior management team
  • In-depth experience of managing the interface with local authority and CCGs commissioners/funders
  • Experience of strategic development of services and successfully managing large projects
  • Effective management of large budgets
  • Experience of using data and digital technology to advance and improve practice

Skills & Knowledge 

  • Thorough understanding of relevant health and social care issues such as dementia, mental health, disability, age related conditions, end of life care and other.
  • Thorough understanding of the legal and regulatory framework that governs social care.
  • Knowledge of mental capacity and safeguarding and a commitment to ensure that these are implemented in the best interest of any vulnerable people in our care.
  • Computer literate and competent user of Word, Excel, email and digital technology
