The role is based at Lady Sarah Cohen House, Friern Barnet, N11 3ND.  The working hours are between 35 to  40 hours each week worked on a rota basis, to include evening and weekend work.The catering facilities at the resource provide an excellent standard of catering and hospitality to residents, day centre members and service users on the campus. The Catering and Hospitality team at all times represent Jewish Care and as such is welcoming and hospitable at all times.

This role is based at Lady Sarah Cohen House, Friern Barnet, N11 3ND.The working hours are between 35 to 40 hours each week worked on a rota basis, to include evening and weekend work.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Undertake basic food preparation, for example vegetables, salads and sandwiches, to agreed timescales and standards
  • Clean and clear food preparation areas to agreed timescale and standards
  • Prepare food counter areas and dining areas for service to agreed timescales and standards and ensure their appearance is inviting and pleasing
  • Provide service of hot, cold food and beverages to ensure customers needs are met
  • Assist in preparation and service of hospitality and events to ensure agreed standards and timescales are met to ensure their success
  • Operate the till, taking payments, giving change and cashing up when required to agreed standards
  • Attend staff training to meet organisational and legislative standards so that high standards are met and maintained
  • Demonstrate good standards of customer service, through regular personal contact with the customers to ensure their needs are met
  • Attend catering hospitality service meetings required and to report regularly to the Front of House/ Hospitality Manager on any matters discussed with Customers to ensure the highest standards are met and maintained
  • Comply with all Company Policies and Procedures, together with all statutory legal requirements and regulations to ensure standards are met and maintained

Job, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience as a kitchen assistant preferable
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate is required, however if not already attained, then the ability to undertake and pass this qualification is necessary
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Able to work flexibly on a rota basis
  • A team player who can also work independently
  • Good, clear communication 
  • Basic literacy, verbal and numeracy skills
  • Awareness of working in a multicultural environment
  • Willingness to undertake supervision, NVQ training and any other training that may be appropriate
  • Health and Safety awareness
  • Equal Opportunities awareness

  • Understanding of Jewish values and culture beneficial

  • To carry out any reasonable duties as requested by the designated line manager or other senior person
