The role of the Dementia Support Worker at our Southend and Westcliff Jewish Community Centre, provides a comprehensive and dynamic range of activities and personal support to Centre members who have a diagnosis of dementia, cognitive impairment, or memory problems, by uderstanding issues affecting people with dementia. The Dementia Support Worker & Driver is responsible for specific clients, completing care plans and reports and attending reviews. 

The Centre can cater for up to 35/40 people in the main centre and up to 20 members per week who have been diagnosed with dementia. The Service serves Jewish people living in the Southend and Westcliff area and surrounding district.,. The Centre also offers outreach to people within their own homes and in other communal locations.


 This post is for 15 hours per week (2 days Tuesdays & Wednesdays) working 8.30am  - 16.30pm 

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing a comprehensive and dynamic range of activities which successfully integrate users into the social life of the Centre.
  • Providing an environment which is motivating and stimulating for all members.
  • key working, and to be responsible for specific clients,  complete care plans and reports and attend reviews as agreed with the Manager and, to agreed standards. 
  • encouraging and enable users to develop and achieve their interests by providing a person‑centred approach to meet their needs.
  • Ensuring that all users are given opportunities for participation and to evaluate the effectiveness of the service to meet their needs and improve the services we provide.
  • Working effectively and efficiently in a team setting consisting of staff and volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the Centre.
  • Ensuring that activities in the services reflect a Jewish theme and are appropriate for the Centre's members, to meet their needs to agreed standards.
  • Lead activity groups for service users to meet their needs to agreed standards and to liaise effectively with the manager, and other members of staff and appropriate agencies.
  • Ensuring that all activity areas are set up in an organised way, observing Health and Safety procedures, to agreed standards.
  • Ensuring that all areas are left tidy and secure after activities and that equipment is unplugged and/or locked up, to agreed standards.
  • Assisting in all aspects of physical care of service users to meet their needs, to agreed standards.
  • Liasing with carers of people with dementia and professionals within Jewish Care and other outside agencies in line with Jewish Care policies and procedures.
  • Communicating with the manager, or other designated senior staff, any concerns regarding members’ general wellbeing.
  • Have flexibility and initiative when working with people with dementia to meet their needs
  • Completing care reports for service users as directed to agreed timescales and standards.


What youl'll need:

  • Experience of working with elderly, frail & disabled people
  • Experience of working in a day care or care home setting  
  • Experience of working in the field of therapeutic activity     
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting people with dementia.
  • Ability to communicate with and relate compassionately and appropriately with people with dementia and other disabilities with good listening skills.
