Based in Barnet, Lady Sarah Cohen House is Jewish Care largest home. We provide nursing care for up to 120 highly dependent residents. The home is split into three floors, each one providing care and support for up to 40 residents.  

The role of the Care Manager is to ensure Jewish Care provides a person-centred service to all of our residents, building relationships with them and their families and to confidently and professionally lead a team of nurses, team leaders and carers.  The Care Manager is accountable for ensuring that the service provided is delivered in line with all current legislation and policies and that all staff are trained and supported to deliver high quality and care and support to residents.

39 hours per week worked on a rota basis including some weekends.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Encourage service users to maintain their independence by understanding their needs, enabling the service to create opportunities to express these fully.
  • Participate in the care planning process for service users to ensure their needs are fully understood, agreed, documented and delivered to the agreed standard.
  • Lead an effective, motivated team providing excellent person centred care, ensuring Jewish Care continues to promote meaningful lives.
  • Manage the nursing and care worker team on the floor through reflective practice and regular and timely supervision and performance reviews so that all care staff are fully supported to be effective in their role.
  • Promote and maintain good channels of communication amongst the team and between service users, family members, volunteers and staff.
  • Oversee the effective management of the unit including the rota, handover process, medication management, doctors rounds, end of life care and communication with families.  Auditing the unit to ensure the service is being delivered to Jewish Care standards and in line with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain standards of practise to meet CQC requirements and legislative directives.
  • Deputise for the deputy managers in their absence
  • Maintain good links with Jewish Care’s support service
  • Actively promote and demonstrate Jewish Care Values

What you’ll need:

  • RGN or RMN registered with NMC – desirable
  • NVQ or QCF Level 4
  • Previous experience working with older people and leading a team in a care environment (Essential)
  • Proven experience of being responsible for the day to day management of a care environment (Essential)
  • Experience of security and building management (Desirable)
  • Experience of administration of medicine (Essential)
  • Experience of dealing with emergency care (Essential)
  • Ability to use initiative appropriately and work independently without direct supervision, knows to ask for support
