The role of the Befriending Officer for the Volunteers’ Department is to work with staff and volunteers in all areas of the organisation. They will provide an effective and fully comprehensive administrative service to the Department and supervise the daily work of the Department's volunteers. This will include working with the recruitment officer to interview and place prospective volunteers as well as arranging events.

The post holder is a member of the Volunteers’ Department who will also represent The Department at the various group meetings listed at the end of this document. In addition to working with staff and volunteers providing services in residential care homes, community centres and offices, the post holder will be responsible for liaising with other departments such as Finance, IT and Events when this is necessary to support the work of the Volunteers Department.

The post holder will be required to work with all Jewish Care resources and be willing to travel.

This post is part time for 20 hours per week.

What you'll be doing

  • Oversee and run the Befriending service
  • Implement and manage the structure of Befriending
  • To develop Befriending so that policies, process and procedures are consistent across the organisation.
  • To engage with the community and to recruit volunteers and service users through current and new networks
  • To manage and support a team of Volunteer coordinator To ensure that safeguarding processes are in place to support both the volunteers and the service users.
  • To be the first point of contact for all referrals and then assess and distribute accordingly
  • To ensure that new referrals are appropriate for the befriending service
  • To identify training needs for the befrienders and the volunteer coordinators
  • Promote supervision, mentorship and peer support for the volunteers
  • To work with the Community Engagement Manager
  • Work with other departments within Jewish Care
  • To identify external opportunities to engage and reach members of the community
  • To identify hard to reach and isolated members of the community
  • To develop and maintain strong relationships with staff and volunteers in the resources and external resources
  • To be part of the Community Engagement & Volunteer Department
  • To supervise and support befriending coordinators
  • To collate data when necessary to report to stakeholders within the organisation
  • To work with the Recruitment and Enrollment Officer to recruit new volunteers
  • To ensure that volunteers are receiving the correct training
  • To support and supervise the transition and implementation of all befriending information and visit updates to Dynamics CRM system
  • To ensure that all administrative functions for the Befriending service are carried out efficiently and within agreed time limits.
  • To assist with the administration of volunteer recruitment and arrangement of training sessions ensuring that these are carried out in accordance with the agreed standards to keep with Jewish Care standards.
  • To organise, attend and take notes at relevant meetings and training sessions to agreed standards.
  • To write letters and emails to volunteers, members and external colleagues to agreed standards.
  • To keep in regular contact with befrienders and the people that they support thus maintaining ongoing monitoring the volunteers and clients’ wellbeing.
  • To ensure that there is a shared knowledge across relevant Jewish Care teams to meet members ‘developing needs to access further Jewish Care services.
  • To attend training when required to meet agreed standards of service.
  • To coordinate and collate information and records regarding the various aspects of the administration of Supportive Communities.

What you'll need:

  • Understanding or experience of working in a Community setting.
  • Understanding of working in the administration field or the desire to.
  • Understanding of marketing and communication or social media networking.
  • Understanding of events organising and working with volunteers or the desire to.
  • Counselling Qualification (Desirable)
  • Previous experience with older people
  • Previous experience of community work
